Ala. Admin. Code r. 460-X-1-.01 - General Description

The Alabama Historical Commission was established by the Alabama Legislature in 1966 to foster the understanding and preservation of Alabama's heritage. The Commission consists of seven ex officio members and fourteen members appointed by the Governor. The Commission holds an annual meeting in Montgomery and meets at such times and places within the state of Alabama as may be considered necessary, desirable or convenient upon call of the chairman or in the case of his absence or incapacity, of the vice chairman. However, by four-fifths vote of the Commission, such meetings may be held outside the state of Alabama. Eight members of the Commission constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. The Commission elects a chairman, a vice chairman, a secretary, and a treasurer who hold office for a period of one year or until successors are elected. The Commission employs an executive director who is responsible directly to the Commission for the general supervision and execution of the work of the Commission. The Commission designates the executive director's duties and authority. The Commission employs such other personnel as may be necessary or advisable for carrying out in the most efficient and beneficial manner the purposes of the Commission. Such other persons employed are directly responsible to the executive director. Requests for information or submissions or requests should be directed to the Alabama Historical Commission, 468 South Perry Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36130.
