17 AAC 70.010 - Purpose of ferry system

Vessels of the Alaska Marine Highway System provide scheduled service to and between ports in Alaska for transportation of persons, baggage, vehicles and the contents of such vehicles unless otherwise specifically prohibited. Service performed shall be subject to rates, charges, fares and regulations as shown in the seasonal public information brochures published regularly by the ferry system. The ferry system has been classified by the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, as a marine highway. Regulations of the Interstate Commerce Commission, United States Department of Transportation and/or Alaska Transportation Commission are not applicable to the rules, rates and schedules applied to movement of traffic over terminals or aboard vessels of the ferry system.
