Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 11, § 5512 - Firearms and Firearm Precursor Parts for Which NO Unique Serial Numbers Will be Provided
(a) The Department will not provide a serial
number for weapons prohibited pursuant to Penal Code section
16590, assault
weapons as defined in Penal Code section
30510 or
30515, machine
guns as defined in Penal Code section
16880, .50 BMG
rifles as defined in Penal Code section
30530,
destructive devices as defined in Penal Code section
16460, short
barreled rifles as defined in Penal Code section
17170, short
barreled shotguns as defined in Penal Code section
17180,
unconventional pistols as defined in Penal Code section
17270, or any
other firearm prohibited by Part 6 of the Penal Code.
(b) The Department will not provide a serial
number if the applicant's description of the firearm that the applicant intends
to manufacture or assemble indicates that the firearm would be considered an
unsafe handgun as defined in Penal Code section
31910.
(c) The Department will not provide a serial
number for firearms or firearm precursor parts produced, on or after January 1,
2023, by 3D printers in violation of Penal Code section
29010,
subdivision (b).
