Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 14, § 654 - Permits for Possession of Protected Species of Wild Animals for Exhibition Purposes
(a) Disposition of live or dead protected
species of wild animals acquired by the department in its operations or
enforcement of the fish and game laws may be made by issuing free permits for
the possession of such wild animals to public zoological gardens, scientific or
educational institutions for exhibition purposes.
(b) Permits for the possession of migratory
birds as defined by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act are void unless accompanied
by a permit issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
(c) Permits are not transferable.
(d) Employees of the department may inspect
wildlife species possessed under authority of this permit at any time to
determine whether or not such wildlife species are properly housed and cared
for.
(e) The commission may revoke
the permit for violation of its terms or of any fish and game law or upon the
recommendation of the department when such wildlife specimens are not properly
housed, exhibited or cared for.
