Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 19, § 939 - Fire Sprinkler Fitter Certification
(a) To
be certified as a Fire Sprinkler Fitter, an applicant shall meet the following
requirements:
(1) Be 16 years of age or
older.
(2) Complete a Sprinkler
Fitter Certification Application (AES 1005) accompanied by the fees prescribed
in Section
925.1 of these
regulations.
(3) Provide one of the
following:
(A) Proof of completion of a State
of California or federally approved fire sprinkler fitter apprenticeship
program.
(B) Proof of a valid State
of California Contractors State License Board Fire Protection Contractor (C-16)
License.
(4) Pass a
written examination.
(b)
Upon approval of 1 through 4 above, the applicant will be issued a
Certification Card.
(c) A person
possessing a certification and performing installation of water-based fire
protection systems for a properly licensed California Contractors State License
Board C-16 contractor, shall perform only those tasks which the certificate
holder is authorized to perform, and for which the person is qualified in
accordance with Section
945.
(d) An original certification shall be valid
from the date of issuance through June 30th. Thereafter, each certification
shall be renewed annually and is valid from July 1st through June
30th.

2. Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-63-20 (2019 CA EO 63-20), dated May 7, 2020, which suspended certain certification deadlines applying to fire sprinkler fitters and apprentices, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
