Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 22, § 50009.1 - Medical Review
(a) Medical review means a periodic, not less
than annual, evaluation of the health needs of each beneficiary in each mental
hospital, skilled nursing facility and intermediate care facility. Medical
Review is conducted by a Medical Review Team on behalf of the
Department.
(b) Such review is to
determine the quality and adequacy of the services being provided each
beneficiary, the level of care required to meet each beneficiary's health needs
and the necessity and desirability of the initial or continued placement of
such patient in such facility.
(c)
The review shall include a personal contact with and observation of each
beneficiary and a review of each beneficiary's medical record by a Team member
or members. The review may include a medical examination of the beneficiary by
the Medi-Cal consultant when the consultant deems it necessary.
