Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 3, § 820.3 - Requirements for Entry of Bulls into California

(a) Non-virgin bulls less than 18 months of age and bulls 18 months of age and over shall:
(1) Have a negative DNA detection or amplification-based trichomonosis test result within 60 calendar days prior to entry into California; and
(2) Meet the identification and documentation requirements pursuant to Title 3, California Code of Regulations, sections 831.3 and 831.4 respectively, for the purposes of animal disease traceability.
(A) The following declaration and information must be stated on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection:
1. Trichomonosis has not been diagnosed in the herd of origin within the past 24 months.
2. The trichomonosis test date, test type and test results. An official test record may be attached to the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.
(b) Any bull originating from a herd in which trichomonosis has been diagnosed within the past 24 months shall have all of the following:
(1) Two (2) negative DNA detection or amplification-based trichomonosis tests conducted on specimens collected at least seven (7) calendar days apart, but not more than 28 calendar days apart, with the last test conducted within 60 calendar days prior to entry; and
(2) The Certificate of Veterinary Inspection must state that the requirements set forth in subsections (a)(2) and (b)(1) above have been met.
(c) Breeding bulls entering California as part of a herd that has been authorized entry into California via a Pasture to Pasture permit pursuant to Title 3, California Code of Regulations, section 831(a)(1), require one (1) negative DNA detection or amplification-based trichomonosis test within the 12 months prior to entry. The Pasture to Pasture permit shall include the date, test type and test results (or a copy of the official test record must be attached to the permit), and the name and telephone number of the testing veterinarian.
(1) Breeding bulls entering as a part of a breeding herd must meet the identification requirements as specified in Title 3, California Code of Regulations, section 831.3.
(d) Bulls may be exempt from the trichomonosis test requirements for entry into California under any one or all of the following conditions:
(1) Used solely for exhibition purposes and remain under confinement at the location of the exhibition without having access to or allowed to commingle with sexually mature female cattle; or
(2) Used solely for artificial insemination using semen extension and preservation protocols that meet Certified Semen Services standards; or
(3) Moved directly to a recognized slaughtering establishment where they are slaughtered within three (3) calendar days of arrival; or
(4) Entering a feedlot for feeding and subsequent movement to a recognized slaughtering establishment where they are slaughtered within three (3) calendar days of arrival, with no grazing or no exposure to female cattle; or
(5) Returning to California without change of ownership, within 12 months of a pre-entry negative trichomonosis test required by a destination state, and that have been confined in pens in the destination state without exposure to female cattle since the pre-entry negative trichomonosis test; or
(6) Moved directly to no more than one (1) Approved Livestock Marketing Facility, as defined in Title 3, California Code of Regulations, section 830(a)(3), then moved directly to a recognized slaughtering establishment where they are slaughtered within three (3) days.
