Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 8, § 4060 - Location of Pulleys on Line Shaft and Countershaft
(a) Where the distance to the nearest fixed
pulley, clutch or hanger is equal or less than the width of the belt, a guide
shall be provided to prevent the belt from leaving the pulley.
(b) Overhanging flat pulleys on line shafts
or countershafts shall be provided with a stop to prevent the belt from running
off the pulley.
(c) Where loose
pulleys or idlers are not practicable, belt perches in form of brackets,
rollers, etc., shall be used to keep idle belts away from the shafts.
