Iowa Admin. Code r. 761-602.12 - Class D noncommercial driver's license (chauffeur)
This rule describes a noncommercial Class D driver's license.
(1)
Validity and
issuance.
a. The license is valid
for operating:
(1) A motor vehicle as a
chauffeur as specified by the endorsement on the license, unless the type of
vehicle or type of operation requires a commercial driver's license.
(2) A motor vehicle that may be legally
operated under a noncommercial Class C driver's license, including a motorized
bicycle.
(3) A motorcycle only if
the license has a motorcycle endorsement.
b. The license shall have one endorsement
authorizing a specific type of motor vehicle or type of operation, as listed in
761-subrule 605.7(3).
c. The
license is issued for either two years or eight years.
(1) A qualified applicant who is at least 18
years of age but not yet 78 years of age shall be issued an eight-year license.
However, the expiration date of the license issued shall not exceed the
licensee's 80th birthday.
(2) A
two-year license shall be issued to a qualified applicant who is 78 years of
age or older.
(3) A two-year
license may also be issued, at the discretion of the department, to an
applicant whose license is restricted due to vision or other physical
disabilities.

Requirements.
a. An applicant shall be at least 18 years of
age.

This rule is intended to implement Iowa Code sections 321.1 as amended by 2021 Iowa Acts, House File 389, 321.177, 321.189, and 321.196.
