Md. Code Regs. 08.03.09.12 - Live Cervid Importation and Movement
A. For
the purpose of this regulation, "cervid" means a hoofed mammal that is a member of
the Family Cervidae. This includes, but is not limited to, white-tailed deer, mule
deer, moose, elk, black-tailed deer, caribou (reindeer), fallow deer, roe deer, musk
deer, swamp deer, Pampas deer, tufted deer, red deer, and sika deer.
B. A person may not transport a live cervid into
or out of the State or transport, move, or possess a live cervid within the State,
except as provided in §§C-E of this regulation.
C. Accredited American Zoological Association
facilities may exchange live cervids for the purpose of genetic diversity. These
cervids may be transported only after meeting all applicable federal and State
departments of agriculture laws.
D.
Persons possessing a game husbandry license pursuant to Natural Resources Article,
§
10-905, Annotated Code
of Maryland, may only possess the live cervids listed on their licenses.
E. A person possessing a letter of authorization
from the Service may transport a live cervid through the State.
