Md. Code Regs. 09.10.02.49 - Exactas
A. The exacta is a
contract by the purchaser of a ticket combining two horses in a single race,
selecting the two horses that will subsequently finish first and second in that
race. Payment of the ticket shall be made only to the purchaser who has
selected the same order of finish as officially posted.
B. The exacta is not a "parlay" and has no
connection with or relation to the win, place and show betting and shall be
calculated as an entirely separate pool.
C. In the event of an entry finishing first
and second, the net exacta pool shall be distributed to holders of tickets
combining the entry with the horse finishing third.
D. If a horse is scratched out of an exacta
race, all exacta tickets combining the scratched horse with any other horse in
that race shall be refunded and the money refunded shall be deducted from the
gross pool.
E. If no ticket is sold
selecting the winner and the second horse to finish one-two, in that order, the
net pool shall be distributed as a place pool to the holders of tickets
selecting the winner to finish first and the holders of tickets selecting the
second horse to finish second.
F.
If no ticket is sold that would require distribution of an exacta pool to a
winner as above defined, the association shall make a complete and full refund
of the exacta pool.
G. If two
horses finish in a dead heat to win, the net pool shall be distributed as a
place pool to the holders of tickets on the two winning combinations. For
example: If 4 and 6 finish in a dead heat to win, holders of tickets on 6 and 4
as well as holders of tickets 4 and 6 will share in the net pool.
H. If two horses finish in a dead heat to
place, the net pool shall be distributed as a place pool to the holders of
tickets on the two winning combinations. For example: If 3 is the winner and 5
and 7 finish in a dead heat to place, holders of tickets combining 3 and 5, in
that exact order, and holders of tickets combining 3 and 7, in that exact
order, will share in the pool.
I.
If there is a dead heat to win or a dead heat to place and no ticket has been
sold on one of the winning combinations, the net pool shall be distributed to
the holders of tickets on the other combination.
J. If there is a dead heat to place and no
ticket has been sold combining the winner with either one of the two horses
finishing in the dead heat, the holders of tickets selecting the winner to
finish first and the holders of tickets selecting either one of the dead heat
horses to finish second shall share in the net pool. The net pool shall be
distributed as a place pool the winner shall receive one-half and the horses in
the dead heat shall divide the remaining half proportionately between
them.
