Md. Code Regs. 09.10.02.50 - Triples (Trifectas)
A. The
triple is a contract by the purchaser of a ticket combining three horses that
will subsequently finish first, second and third in that race. Payment of the
ticket shall be made only to the purchaser who has selected the same order of
finish as officially posted.
B. The
triple is not a parlay and has no connection with or relation to the win, place
and show betting and shall be calculated as an entirely separate
pool.
C. Repealed.
D. If no ticket is sold on the winning
combination of a triple pool, the net pool shall be distributed to the holders
of tickets selecting the win and place finishers in that order. If no ticket is
sold combining the win and place finish, the net pool shall be distributed to
the holders of tickets selecting the win and show horses. If no ticket is sold
combining the win, place and show finishers, the net pool shall be distributed
to the holders of tickets selecting the winner. If less than three horses
finish, the payoff shall be made to holders of tickets selecting the finishing
horses in order, ignoring the balance of the selection.
E. If no ticket is sold that would require
distribution of the net triple pool to a winner as above defined, the
association shall make a full refund of the triple pool.
F. In the event of a dead heat, all triple
tickets selecting the correct order of finish, counting a horse in a dead heat
as finishing in either position dead heated, shall be winning tickets. The
payoff shall be calculated as a place pool by dividing the net triple pool by
the total purchase price of winning tickets.
G. In the event of a scratch in the triple
exchanges may not be made. All tickets which include the scratched horse are
eliminated from further participation in the triple pool and shall be refunded.
Refunds on key horse wheel tickets may be made after the triple race is
official. Key horse wheel tickets shall be sold during the entire triple
wagering period at the posted price used when triple wagering opens.
H. Coupled entries are permitted but fields
are prohibited in triple races.
H-1. If the horses in a coupled entry finish
in more than one of the first three positions, one or more of the horses, as
necessary, finishing directly after the first three horses shall be used to
complete a winning selection consisting of three different numbers.
I. Triple tickets shall be sold only by the
licensee through pari-mutuel machines programmed to print all selections on one
ticket. The design of triple tickets shall be clearly and immediately
distinguishable from other pari-mutuel tickets. Resale of the tickets from one
individual to another is prohibited and shall be grounds for
ejection.
J. Each association shall
print in heavy type in a conspicuous place in its printed program all the
provisions of this regulation.
