Mich. Admin. Code R. 400.4517 - Facility construction

Rule 517.

(1) A new, substantially remodeled or converted large or secure facility shall be 1 of the following types of construction as specified in the national fire protection association standard No. 220, entitled "Standard on Types of Building Construction, 2015:"
(a) Type I 442 or 332 or type II 222.
(b) Type II 111, type III 211, type IV 2HH.
(c) Type II 000, type III 200, or type V 000 up to 2 stories.
(2) New, converted, and substantially remodeled small facilities shall be at least frame construction and shall be fire-stopped at all wall and floor junctures and all wall and ceiling junctures with not less than 2-inch nominal lumber.
(3) C onstruction in existing licensed facilities that was approved before these rules take effect and which meets the construction requirements of the fire safety guidelines these rules supersede shall continue to be approved until the facility is substantially remodeled or converted. When an existing facility is substantially remodeled or added to, only the portion of the facility being substantially remodeled or added need comply with subrule (1) or (2) of this rule and R 400.4522, as appropriate.
