Mich. Admin. Code R. 408.10697 - Piers and water-surrounded buildings

Rule 697.

(1) A pier used for any purpose other than for mooring of vessels and handling of cargo shall be provided with a means of egress from any building thereon to the pier and from the pier to the mainland appropriate to the character of the occupancy of the pier.
(2) A building, such as a lighthouse, surrounded by water shall have a sufficient area of ground, as on an island or fire-resistive platform, to provide an adequate area of refuge from a fire in the building.
