Mich. Admin. Code R. 408.7100 - Hoisting chains
Rule 100.
(1)
Only roller chain made of high quality alloy, heat treated steel with the
following characteristics is acceptable for hoisting chains:
(a) Prestressed.
(b) Shot peened.
(c) In-line blanking.
(d) Deep case hardening of pins and
bushings.
(2) Suspension
means shall not be less than 2 separate roller chains, each chain having a
tensile strength of not less than 3,500 pounds.
(3) The factor of safety of the suspension
means shall be not less than 7.
(4)
A chain shall have not less than 6 inches of chain available beyond the normal
stopping point when the car has reached its extreme limits of travel.
(5) A chain end shall be fastened by standard
master links.
