40 Miss. Code. R. 2-4.1 - [Effective until 7/26/2024] SMALL GAME HUNTING AND TRAPPING SEASONS AND BAG LIMITS

A. FROG:
1. Season: April 1-September 30
2. Bag Limit: Only 25 may be taken in any one night. A valid hunting or fishing license is required.
B. RACCOON:
1. Season: July 1 - September 30
2. Bag Limit: 1 per party per night
C. OPOSSUM, RACCOON, AND BOBCAT:
1. First Season: October 1 - October 31 (sport hunting with dogs and guns for food & sport)
2. Bag Limit: 5 per day; 8 per party
3. Second Season: November 1 - February 28 (sport hunting with dogs and guns for food, sport, and pelt)
4. Bag Limit: No limit
D. SQUIRREL:
1. Fall Season:
a. Season: October 1 - February 28
b. Bag Limit: 8 per day
2. Spring Season:
a. Season: May 15 -June 1
b. Bag Limit: 4 per day
3. Youth Squirrel Hunts (On private lands and authorized state and federal lands only in those areas open for squirrel hunting)
a. Season: September 24 - 30
b. Bag Limit: 8 per day
c. Authorized state and federal lands include Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U. S. Corps of Engineers managed lands which designate the squirrel youth season in their regulations and open U. S. Forest Service National Forest lands.
d. Persons eligible to participate in this special hunt are:
i. Those who are fifteen (15) years of age or younger.
ii. A child at least twelve (12) years of age and under sixteen (16) years of age must have a certificate of satisfactory completion of a hunter education course approved by the department before hunting alone in this state; otherwise they must be in the presence and under the direct supervision of a licensed or exempt hunter at least twenty-one (21) years of age when hunting.
iii. A child under the age of twelve (12) must be in the presence and under the direct supervision of a licensed or exempt hunter at least twenty-one (21) years of age when the child is hunting.
iv. A licensed hunter supervising a child as provided in this section must hold a valid Mississippi license for the species being hunted.
4. Whenever the opening date set above falls on a Sunday, the season shall begin on the preceding Saturday.
E. BOBWHITE QUAIL:
1. Season: From Thanksgiving Day - the first Saturday in March next following.
2. Bag Limit: 8 per day
F. RABBIT:
1. Season: The Saturday nearest October 15 - February 28
2. Bag Limit: 8 per day
3. Whenever the opening date set above falls on a Sunday, the season shall begin on the preceding Saturday.
G. TRAPPING SEASON:
1. Season: November 1 -March 15
2. Bag Limit: No Limit
