N.J. Admin. Code § 13:20-32.45 - Television, videocassette recorder, or digital video disk player requirements, all vehicles; video camera requirements, all vehicles; global positioning system requirements, all vehicles; vehicle safety devices requirements, all vehicles; commercial vehicle inspection at official inspection facilities
(a) A motor vehicle
shall not have a television, videocassette recorder, or digital video disk player
installed in such a manner that the viewing screen is visible to the driver while he
or she is operating the motor vehicle.
(b) A motor vehicle may be equipped with a video
camera or other device to enable the driver to view the exterior rear of the
vehicle. Such camera or device shall not be operable when the vehicle is in forward
motion.
(c) A motor vehicle may be
equipped with a global positioning system provided such system does not obstruct the
vision of the driver.
(d) A motor
vehicle may be equipped with various types of vehicle safety technology, as defined
in the United States Code of Federal Regulations at
49 CFR
393.5, and as adopted, amended, and supplemented
in accordance with
N.J.A.C.
13:60-2.1 and pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:5B-32.
Devices must be mounted in accordance with United States Code of Federal Regulations
at
49 CFR 393.60(e)
(ii) A and B, unless a specific and proper
exemption can be provided from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in
the form of an official letter or a notification published in the Federal
Register.
