Ohio Admin. Code 3337-24-30 - Membership and use eligibility for campus recreation facilities

(A) Overview

This policy establishes the process for membership and use eligibility for the campus recreation facilities located on Athens campus. These facilities consist of the Charles J. Ping student recreation center, aquatic center, Walter fieldhouse, Bird arena, golf course, tennis courts, disc golf course, driving range, competitive sport fields intramural and club sport fields, and the outdoor challenge course.

The primary purpose for these facilities is to serve the educational and recreational needs of the students, faculty, and staff of Ohio university. The aquatic center also has an intercollegiate athletics role and serves as the home of the Ohio bobcat swim team. Use priority for the aquatic center is:

(1) Classes and educational activity

(2) Intercollegiate athletics

(3) Recreation

All campus recreation facilities are open to alumni and the community on a fee for service basis.

Ohio university reserves the right to refuse use of these facilities to any group sponsoring a function which does not meet the standards of Ohio university or which is determined to be detrimental to the academic, community, or state interests of this university.

Policy 01.025 provides an umbrella policy for all facilities usage. Issues not addressed in this policy may be addressed there.

Policy 20.095 describes the process for establishing and changing fees for facility use.

(B) Membership eligibility Full-time and part-time students
(1) Student eligibility:
(a) Undergraduate and graduate students: Current semester full-time and part-time Athens campus undergraduate and graduate students of Ohio university, are granted membership and access to the Charles J. Ping student recreation center, aquatic center, bird arena, Walter fieldhouse, competitive sports fields and the outdoor tennis courts. Ohio university identification card is required for access. Fees for service will be assessed for use of the golf course, indoor tennis courts, driving range and the challenge course.
(b) Regional, centers and extension campuses, and online students:

Undergraduate and graduate students of Ohio university regional, centers and extension campuses and online students are eligible to purchase a membership or daily use pass to any recreation facility. Ohio university identification card is required for access.

(c) Non-enrolled students: Students who are not enrolled for the current semester but were enrolled the previous or are enrolled for the following semester are eligible to purchase a membership or daily use pass to any recreation facility. Ohio university identification card is required for access.
(2) Faculty and staff:

Current Ohio university Athens, regional, centers and extension campuses fulltime, part-time or retired employees are eligible to purchase a membership or daily use pass to any recreation facility. Ohio university identification card is required for access.

(3) Other eligible individuals:

Alumni, community, spouse of Ohio university student, faculty or staff, and domestic partners as defined by Ohio university human resources http://www.ohio.edu/hr are eligible to purchase a membership or daily use pass to any recreation facility. Dependents (under the age of eighteen) of current members are also eligible for membership and daily use passes at an additional per person fee. When accessing and using the facilities, supervision and age restrictions may apply.

Undergraduate and graduate students of Ohio university who are assessed the university general fee are granted membership to the Charles J. Ping student recreation center, aquatic center, Bird arena, and the outdoor tennis courts. Fees for service will be assessed for use of the golf course, indoor tennis courts, the driving range and the outdoor pursuits challenge course on a per-visit, academic term, or annual basis.

(C) Faculty, staff, and alumni

Probationary or tenured faculty, classified, bargaining unit, or administrative employees on the university payroll, adjunct faculty, and retired faculty and staff are eligible to purchase a membership to any of the recreational facilities. Alumni of Ohio university who have completed forty-five hours are also eligible to purchase memberships to recreational facilities. Fees will be offered on a per-visit, academic term, or annual basis.

(D) Regional campuses

Undergraduate and graduate students as well as the faculty and staff of Ohio university regional campuses are eligible to purchase a daily use pass to any recreational facility.

(E) Families

Students and members with spouses (as defined by Ohio university), and dependents (under twenty-three years of age if enrolled as a full time student) may purchase spouse or family memberships. When using the facilities, children under the age of seventeen must be accompanied by parent or responsible adult, or be under staff supervision.

(F) (C) Membership and use information Memberships may be used during open recreation hours as established by each facility. Holiday and annual maintenance shutdowns are considered in the membership cost. Age restrictions to specific areas of the facility may apply. Memberships to all facilities may be purchased at the campus recreation business office, located in Room 142 of the Ping center. Regular business hours are Monday-Friday, eight a.m. to five p.m. Payment options are cash, check, or credit card.

Ohio university students and departments have priority in the use of recreation facilities. The overall impact on facility utilization and operations by non-university members or guests will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that no undue conflicts arises in facility availability or conflicts with the core mission of Ohio university.

(G) Guests

Ping center members are limited to two guests per visit and the qualifying member must accompany guests. A daily guest fee will be assessed.

(H) Others

On occasion and during non-peak time periods, special programs, including camps, family nights, festivals, and other activities, the facilities may be open to the university community or the general public. The overall impact on facility utilization and operations by community use and these activities will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that no conflict arises in facility availability for student use.

Information regarding each campus recreation facility, including scheduled hours and costs, may be obtained from the division web site (https://www.ohio.edu/recreation/), the division information phone line (740-593-CREC), or the division brochure.

(I) (D) Facility rentals Reservation of facilities - private rentals

Facility or programmatic spaces are available for full or partial rentals, and may include services provided within the department of campus recreation. Ohio university students and departments have priority in the reservation and use of recreation facilities and programmatic spaces. Visit http://www.ohio.edu/recreation for reservation information and fees. All reservations must be approved by the department of campus recreation. Facility rental is available to eligible users on a fee for service basis. Reservations must be made through the division of campus recreation by calling 740-597-CREC. The formal request must be in writing, and, if approved, a facility use permit will be issued.
