Ohio Admin. Code 4501-39-03 - Alternate reflective material
(A) As a minimum, alternate reflective
material is to be black, gray, silver or white in color, must cover a minimum
of seventy-two square inches in area and shall be mounted in one of the
following configurations on the rear of the animal-drawn vehicle:
(1) The alternate reflective material
configuration is to consist of at least seventy-two square inches and with
one-inch wide strips applied to the outside edge of the rear of the
animal-drawn vehicle to approximate the outline of the vehicle. If the minimum
seventy-two square inches is to be applied, the top horizontal strip is to be
twenty-four inches in length, the two side vertical strips are to be eighteen
inches in length and the bottom horizontal strip is to be twelve inches in
length. The top horizontal strip is to be mounted as high on the rear of the
vehicle as possible; or
(2) The
alternate reflective material configuration is to consist of two sets of
vertical strips with one set of strips applied on each side of the rear of the
animal-drawn vehicle. Each vertical strip configuration is to consist of nine
strips of alternate reflective material, each four inches in length and one
inch in width applied to allow each strip to be separated by a space of one
inch.
(B) The alternate
reflective material shall be mounted on the animal-drawn vehicle so as to be
visible from a distance of not less than five hundred feet to the rear when
illuminated by the lawful lower beam of headlamps during the time from sunset
to sunrise, and at any other time when there are unfavorable atmospheric
conditions or when there is not sufficient natural light to render discernible
persons, vehicles, and substantial objects on the highway at a distance of one
thousand feet ahead.
(C) Alternate
reflective material shall be kept free of dirt and debris.
