Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0460-01-.15 - TREATMENT OF NURSING HOME PATIENTS
When treating a nursing home patient in a mobile clinic or in a nursing home, the dentist must:
(1)
Record in both the dental record and the nursing home patient record the
procedures performed.
(2) Record in
the dental record the name of the facility where the patient resides.
(3) Obtain written informed consent from the
patient or if patient is unable to fully understand and give informed consent,
consent must be obtained from the legal guardian of the patient. If a power of
attorney is on file in the nursing home for the patient, the written informed
consent must be obtained from the person who holds the authority under the
power of attorney. It is the responsibility of the dentist to ascertain whether
or not a power of attorney is on file for the patient before evaluation of the
patient by the dentist; and,
(4)
Consult with the patient's physician when medically indicated.
