W. Va. Code R. § 24-2-13 - Responsibilities of Physicians Collaborating with Physician Assistants Pursuant to Practice Notifications
13.1.
Unless otherwise prohibited by a health care facility, a physician who
practices at a health care facility may collaborate with any physician
assistant who holds an active practice notification with the same
facility.
13.2. A physician
collaborating with a physician assistant shall observe, direct, and evaluate
the physician assistant's work, records, and practices, as necessary for
appropriate and meaningful collaboration.
13.3. A collaborating physician shall only
collaborate with a physician assistant with respect to medical acts which are:
13.3.1. Within the physician's scope of
practice;
13.3.2. Consistent with
the physician assistant's education, training, and experience; and
13.3.3. Consistent with any credentialing
requirements of the health care facility.
13.4. While collaboration does not require
the constant physical presence of the collaborating physician, if the
collaborating physician and physician assistant are, or can be, easily in
contact with one another by electronic communication, including but not limited
to telecommunication, physician collaboration shall not exclusively occur
through written communication, electronic communication, telecommunication or
any combination thereof.
