Ariz. Admin. Code § R9-10-216 - Anesthesia Services
An administrator shall ensure that:
1. Anesthesia services provided in
conjunction with surgical services performed in the operating room are provided
as an organized service under the direction of a medical staff
member;
2. Documentation is
available in the surgical services area that specifies the medical staff
member's clinical privileges to administer anesthesia;
3. Except in an emergency, an
anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist performs a pre-anesthesia evaluation
within 48 hours before anesthesia is administered in conjunction with surgical
services;
4. Anesthesia
administration is documented in a patient's medical record and includes:
a. A pre-anesthesia evaluation, if
applicable;
b. An intra-operative
anesthesia record;
c. The
postoperative status of the patient upon leaving the operating room;
and
d. Post-anesthesia
documentation by the individual performing the post-anesthesia evaluation that
includes the information required by the medical staff bylaws and medical staff
regulations; and
5. A
registered nurse or a physician documents resuscitative measures in the
patient's medical record.
