Kan. Admin. Regs. § 4-10-10 - Safety
(a) The following
personal safety equipment shall be available for use at each permanent storage
facility and reactor unit when anhydrous ammonia is being transferred and when
maintenance is being conducted on a system:
(1) A NIOSH-approved respirator that covers
the entire face and has current ammonia canisters with intact seals;
(2) one pair of protective gloves made of
rubber or any other material impervious to anhydrous ammonia;
(3) one pair of protective boots made of
rubber or any other material impervious to anhydrous ammonia;
(4) one protective suit made of rubber or any
other material impervious to anhydrous ammonia;
(5) a shower or at least 100 gallons of clean
water to be used as safety water; and
(6) a pair of chemical-splash
goggles.
(b) During each
transfer, the attendant shall wear the personal protective equipment specified
in paragraphs (a)(2) and (a)(6), at a minimum.
(c) An area of at least 10 feet around any
container or system shall be kept free of combustibles.
